🔪 The Plot is Plotting
Okay, I know not everyone wants to know how the sausage is made. Lol, given that my current book is called Bodies at Brunch, maybe that’s not the best metaphor. But I also know that a lot of you live for a peek behind the curtain, so here we go.
Beginnings are usually my absolute favorite part of writing a book. There’s something magical about those first chapters with all that promise, and potential, all those clues not yet planted and red herrings not yet dangled.
I love it. I live for it.
Which is why I have to be honest with you and let you know that Bodies at Brunch has been kicking my behind.
I’m not entirely sure what to blame. The warm weather? The fact that this summer hasn’t felt real? My new exercise routine that is somehow both energizing and exhausting? The fact that this story is set in London which right now feels another world and lifetime away? Probably some combination of all of the above, stirred together and served at a very complicated brunch.
Whatever the culprit, this beginning has been harder than any other, and I’ve written a few.
BUT. (And this is a very exciting but.)
This week, something clicked. I made some genuine breakthroughs, and I can finally feel this story’s rhythm starting to pulse beneath my fingertips. There’s a heartbeat now, and I am here for it.
I’m choosing to believe (fingers crossed) that a more demanding beginning means the middle and ending will be smooth sailing with nothing to slow us down except the organized plot twists. And honestly? Wouldn’t have it any other way.
That’s all the news from my writing desk this week! Thank you, as always, for being in my corner. Knowing you’re out there waiting for this story is genuinely one of the things that keeps me showing up to the page even when the page is being difficult. 😉
