A Different Kind of Success Story
I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about what success actually looks like for a serialized audiobook show.
Sure, download numbers matter. I'd be lying if I said I didn't do a little happy dance when they climb. But serializing full cozy mysteries stories changes everything about how I measure whether something is truly connecting with an audience.
If someone tunes in for the first chapter, enjoys it, comes back for a few more, but then quietly disappears somewhere around chapter twenty, never to return? That tells me something: The story didn't carry them all the way home.
So my truest measure of success? Someone who stayed until the very last chapter.
That's the finish line I care about most. Did the mystery keep you guessing? Did the characters feel like friends? Did you need to know who did it? If the answer is yes, if you listened all the way to the resolution, then I consider that a genuine win, no matter what the numbers say.
💛 You Make It Real
Beyond the listening stats, there are a couple of things that genuinely light me up:
- ⭐ Ratings and reviews — If you've ever taken a few minutes to leave a review on your podcast app or wherever you follow along, please know that I read every single one. AND It helps new listeners find the show, and honestly? It makes my whole week.
- 📬 Replies to these emails — Yes, really. If something I wrote made you laugh, think, or reach for a snack, hit reply and tell me. I love hearing from you more than you know.
You're the reason this cozy corner of the mystery world exists,
So this week, while we're on our little break from Comfort Crime, I thought I'd share a few other authors and their free short stories for you to check out. Who knows, one of these might be your next fun escape!
